PTSD

When people hear “PTSD”, they generally think of veterans of the military. However, PTSD is a diagnosis that relates to someone who may have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. PTSD is a debilitating anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive re-experiences of the traumatic events, avoidance of situations and stimuli that could serve as reminders of these events and feeling jumpy or easily startled. Patients with PTSD are often also depressed, and many have significant memory impairments. Existing drug treatments are unsuccessful in a majority of patients, especially in those with combat-related PTSD.

There has been a breadth of compelling research conducted on PTSD patients utilizing Ketamine, many of which have concluded that “Ketamine infusion was associated with significant and rapid reduction of PTSD symptom severity.” Low dose Ketamine infusions in conjunction with psychological therapy allow the patient to become aware of the trauma and through therapy be able to learn techniques to cope with whatever trauma they may have experienced. Psychotherapy in combination with ketamine therapy allows the patient the emotional ability to identify stressors which their life’s path has taught them to repress.
